When does the Colorado AI Act enforce?

Colorado SB 26-189 (the successor to the federally-stayed SB 24-205) is effective January 1, 2027. The statute is in flux. The prior bill, SB 24-205, was stayed by a federal magistrate in April 2026. SB 26-189 passed in May 2026. Verify final enforcement details against leg.colorado.gov. The NIST AI RMF or ISO/IEC 42001 affirmative defense carries over from the prior bill.
